Greetings Fellow Elks, I hope that all of you are doing well as we move into the fall. Ralph and I will be away late in September, so I am writing this article a bit earlier that usual. We have been very active at the lodge in September. Ron’s House Committee article does a great job of covering our activities, so I will try not to be too repetitive. Thanks to all of you who are working to make these activities such a success. From the great ENF barbeque/dinner/dance to the Ladies Garage Sale to Friday night dancing and Wii-ing, to cleaning and maintaining the lodge and grounds, it takes a lot of work and a lot of busy people to keep our lodge going . And many thanks to Jamie Burchick who continues to publish our newsletter and maintain our great web site. And what about that Greta Powers! She has made some beautiful lap afghans and some handy crochet bags to attach to walkers. We will be passing those on to our veterans at the VA in Columbia. A really big thank you. Speaking of busy people, we have some additional opportunities for service with vacancies on the House Committee and two officers, Loyal Knight and Tiler. Let me know if you are available for any of these positions. I do want to thank our officers and trustees for their part in making District Deputy Chuck Kormelink's visit very smooth and successful. Vickie and Sharon have done an outstanding job with the lodge records and all indications were that the DD, the auditor and the esquire were pleased with our efforts. Ron prepared an excellent dinner which was greatly appreciated and thanks to those who provided side dishes and dessert. Welcome to Mark Evergetis who was initiated on September 9th. I asked Rich Wagner, Leading Knight, to fill you in on the By-Laws vote held the second meeting in September. Rich presided over that meeting. Please plan to attend the Autumnfest, October 4. There is sure to be great food and fun for all and the drawing for the $250 gas card! See you in October. Fraternally Yours, Your Exalted Ruler, Linda Talbert |

VOLUNTEERS WANTED - Bill Heil and I visited the Dorn VA Medical Center recently and spoke with the Volunteer Services Department personnel. We picked up a volunteer handbook and blank application for voluntary service forms. The handbook provides an overview of the roles and responsibilities as a volunteer. VA volunteers are valuable members of the Medical Center team. They do not replace paid personnel but perform many useful services to the Center. You will have the opportunity to provide necessary and worthwhile assistance to the patients and staff. You can gain valuable experience, a deeper consciousness of the rewards that comes from helping others, and the satisfaction such service brings personally. There are many reasons to volunteer: community service, practical work experience, a sense of patriotism, and respect for this Nation's veterans just to name a few. The rewards for such service are endless. A flyer is posted on our information board for those interested in volunteering. The handbook and application forms will be in the Secretary's office. WANDERING ELKS?? I have been an active Elk for several years now. However, of the 100 plus members, I hardly know more than 50. On Friday, Sep 8th, I had the pleasure of meeting an Elk who had wandered from Elkdom, but he renewed his membership this year. I believe he, his wife, and friends had a wonderful time renewing old friendships and making new acquaintances. I'm sure he was surprised by the changes at the Lodge. The point is I would like to meet the other 50 or so Elks who are wandering somewhere other than at the Lodge on meeting and activity nights. Our officers and committee personnel work hard to provide for the membership. So, come on back to the Lodge for a look - see. I believe you will like what we are doing for Elkdom and the services we provide for everyone's enjoyment. |

We welcome two new members to our Lodge. Mark Evergetis was initiated on September 9th. Jamie Campbell was voted into our Lodge on September 23rd. He will be initiated at the October 14th meeting. We welcome Mark and Jamie to the Elks and hope that they will take full advantage of the opportunities available to them. For those who are owing their 2nd half dues, statements have been mailed. Please pay timely so that the Lodge will not incur a rebilling cost. Also, any members who are yet unpaid for the 2007/2008 year: Please get your dues paid. They can be mailed or dropped off at the Lodge. We miss you! The House Committee has voted to continue the birthday coupons for the coming year!! It’s been a year since that benefit was started and it has become popular. If you should not receive a birthday coupon and your dues are current, please let me know. Strange as it may seem, I can make a mistake! Thanks to everyone who helped make our District Deputy visit such a success. The DD and the Esquire had nice things to say about our officers and our Lodge. It was a good visit. Vickie Schermbeck, Lodge Secretary |

The fall months are now upon us and hopefully the attendance at the Lodge will pick up as usual. September was a busy month around the Lodge. The DD visit went well and all that attended enjoyed a roast beef dinner. A big thanks to all that helped out in the kitchen. The ENF fund raiser was also a great success. Thanks Sharon for heading up this event. The BBQ was great and all danced and had a great time. Thanks to all that helped out in the kitchen and provided deserts for this event. We could not have made this happen without you. The WI games played on the third Friday night of each month continue to provide members with great entertainment. Be sure and join each and every month for this fun filled night. Due to a scheduling conflict Bill will not be playing Oldie music on Friday Oct. 3rd. Music and dancing on the second and fourth Friday nights will be held as usual. Be sure and join us for these fun filled evenings. On Saturday, Oct. 4th the House Committee will be holding an Autumn Festival which will include German Food, beer, Music and dancing. The cost will be $8.00 per person. Be sure and join us for this great event. The Gas Card Raffle ticket sales have gone exceptionally well and the drawing as planned will be held on Oct. 4th during the Autumn Fest. If any tickets are still available on the 4th, they will be sold prior to holding the drawing. As a reminder, there are only 200 gas cards available which provides each card holder a very good chance of winning. Mark your calendars and be sure to join us. The Lodge kitchen, will be serving a Blue Plate Special on Friday Oct. f24th. Items from the Lodge Menu will also be available. As stated in Last month’s news article the Blue Plate Specials will be served on the fourth Friday of each fall and winter month. Be sure and join us for one of these great meals. The Lodge House Committee and Trusties are in the process of planning a FALL Lodge Cleaning event. The Time and date have yet to be selected so watch for posters around the Lodge. Hope you can join us. The Lodge is not a building, it is People. <> Please give any suggestions for future events to any of the current House Committee members. We are open to all new ideas! Hi Ladies, Fall is just around the corner - I love this time of year. The yard and bake sale went fairly well, even though rain was in the forecast. Thanks to all that participated. I had hoped it would have been a little better. Our next Ladies Auxiliary meeting is Oct 9th at 7:30p.m. Hope to see all of you ladies there. . Sylvia Figurski, President |
